ABOUT THE COMPETITION
Urbanization, globalization, climate change, demographic change are all public pressures on people's quality of life, safety and security. This has put many city authorities in a challenging position to tackle problems, relating to these topics. To address this, we have developed a series of hackathons spread over three months, to challenge our partners and developers to seek new ways to connect, get better insights to foster a better environment and develop a smarter and safer cities.
This event is brought to you by the NSW Government Smart Places Strategy, Oracle Corporation, Slack and Oracle Partner Network. Below are some examples to kickstart your ideation process!

Winner : Team Torus
The Torus Protocol proposes an optionally privacy-preserving, turing-complete, scalable blockchain based on directed acyclic graphs that works in tandem with a portable hardware wallet in the form of a ring that requires biometric identifications via fingerprint to access its functionalities.
Finalist : Team Parkwhere
This app displays carparks on the map with indicators of available lots and price, making finding a carpark space easier for its users.
It uses data and optimizes the parking space available for the users and saves time.
Finalist : Team GTPLUS&WYHIL
The solution uses data from air-quality sensor
(AirFeel) and uses the data to analyse the air quality for disease prevention.
When data shows levels that exceed the threshold, the system could send an alarm to the user or operate an automatic ventilation system.

Guardian with a simple foot pattern gesture like stamping/tapping is programmed to trigger an SOS alert message to your family and emergency respondents for their immediate attention and response to your safety.

Clever Drone application will allow customers to deliver their products or packages using our smart delivery application.

We tokenized and reward users who commute in a socially-responsible manner.
Runners-Up : Team Citisafe
CitiSafe is a cloud-based intelligence platform provider, we provide solutions specifically to enable individuals living in the smart cities and particularly the silent victims to join the communities and transform from bystanders to up-standers.
Runners-Up : Team MyWay
MyWay is an active safety digital assistant that can prevent involuntary exposure to safety risks, improving city users’ safety and wellbeing by inciting travellers to go for leisure walks throughout the area.
Runners-Up : Team Rapidites
A people friendly IoT based chat-bot using Facebook which helps in multiple aspects.

Once you have selected a event to join, you should select at least one of the challenge categories and problem statements to compete in per hackathon. Hover over each tile below to see a list of their potential problem statements.
When submitting your solution at the end of the respective hackathon, your team will need to incorporate or make a reference to least one prescribed dataset released by our Lead Sponsor. These datasets will be released during the opening ceremony.

Smart Administration
Citizens’ are increasingly expecting higher quality services and responses to their needs; be it smarter governance, intelligence mobility or an overall safer city to live. The Smart Administration challenge category can cover solutions that help cities manage public administration issues.
Example Problem Statements
How do we deal with food safety concerns particularly with concerns about perishability and the country of origin? How do we improve the safety of autonomous cars and taxis? How do we ensure that transportations and logistics deliver faster and more reliably to citizens?

Safe cities
Safe Cities require an understanding of the need for security to evolve from a reactive to a proactive approach, with integrated response. The Safe Cities challenge category can cover solutions that help cities to manage public security issues as a city population and urbanisation grows.

Smart Transportation
A functioning transportation and logistics system, with the right accompanying infrastructure, is the backbone of a strong economy. The Smart Transportation challenge category can cover solutions that help mega cities manage their public and private sector mobility more effectively.

In this conversation, we will explore how Oracle's data management platform in the cloud can help analyze Data at Speed to create Smart Cities and citizen centric solutions
PWA or Progressive Web Applications have been there for some time, however in the last few years the popularity has grown as the capabilities have been improved tremendously. Large technology companies have acknowledged this (Google, Microsoft). In this session we will talk about the benefits and challenges implementing PWA’s and will show case how PWA’s can be built easily on Oracle’s low code development tool, Visual Builder Studio. You will learn how to get started with Visual Builder Studio, by provisioning an instance and building your first Mobile Progressive Web Application. Further, we will showcase how you can use the same tool and code to build Device Native Mobile apps. There are two phases to this hackathon. The first phase involves potentially showcasing your work and upvoting other awesome ideas that were developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Submissions will be due by 23:59, Friday 24 June, and be voted on both by the community and a panel of data science experts.
The second phase involves the hackathon. After you sign up you will be invited via email to our event online collaborative space.
The virtual hackathon begins 19:00 Friday, 24th July AEST and concludes 19:00 Monday, 27th July.
This hackathon will be aimed at utilising data science and AI to gain meaningful and actionable insights as nations emerge from lockdowns and stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19.
A hackathon (hack = solving a complex problem) (athon = marathon) is an intense sprint-style experience in which software developers, interface designers, technologists and product experts come together to rapidly develop software or hardware projects.
Once you have registered, you will have access to our dashboard. The resources and Slack space will come online very soon, closer to the hackathon date!
HackMakers will organise, lead mentors, and mentors with hackathon experience will facilitate teams to maximise their experience. This includes helping match participants to team and skills, debug code, ideate, introduce to the resources and tools, and effectively present their solution.
Individuals discuss ideas, share their abilities and skills, then join an existing team or find people in the platform channels to build a new one. In previous event, some successful teams voting on their favourite challenge problem, generate potential solutions and tested these before picking the best option to take forward.
If you don’t have a team, mentors or organisers will be on hand to assist matching.
Most people don’t have an idea before they get to the event. But once you join the event, review the challenges and start talking to other people, you might come up with something. You can also work with somebody else on their idea if you like it.
